Frequently asked questions
Is MOT Check free to use?
The MOT Check app is free to download, and checking a vehicle's MOT history is free. Vehicle valuations and full history checks are available in the app.
What do I need to check a vehicle?
Just the number plate (registration). The app finds the make, model, age, mileage and history automatically.
What does the MOT history show?
Every recorded MOT test for the vehicle: pass or fail, advisory and dangerous defects, the mileage recorded at each test, and when the current MOT expires.
When does a vehicle need its first MOT?
Most cars, vans and motorcycles need their first MOT three years after they were first registered, then every year after that.
How accurate are the valuations?
Valuations use current market data based on the vehicle's make, model, age and mileage. The final price still varies with condition, service history and location.
What does a vehicle check cover?
Outstanding finance, stolen and insurance write-off markers, scrapped/import/export records, mileage anomalies, plate and colour changes, and previous keepers.
Is the data official?
Yes — MOT data comes from official DVLA records and the checks and valuations use official industry data sources.
Which vehicles are supported?
Cars, vans and motorcycles registered in the UK.
